Tableau Vivant is an age-old tradition which blends theatre and costuming with visual arts. I first became involved with this medium in 2018 while designing an arts education programme aimed at primary and middle schools with two colleagues.
The popular school project took on a life of its own and was developed into a mobile event/attraction showcasing series of recognisable (living) paintings by specific artists that the public could participate in. A narrator was introduced as 'infotainment' for the many people in long queues waiting to take part. Between 2018 and 2020 the project was presented at five festivals in North Brabant, before Covid came and ruined the fun.

SCHOOL PROGRAMME
To make the world of art accessible and exciting for children ages 4-12 we used famous paintings, to extend understanding of visual arts by incorporating art history, costume and set design, painting, to support the analytical, collaborative and creative skills required to execute a theatrical presentation of a two-dimensional artwork.
